The goal of the Graphic Design Program is to provide graduates with the specific skills, knowledge, and training that will enable them to be successful in the computer graphic job market, or as a graphic artist. Program topics include design, drawing, web design, digital publishing, art history, and fundamentals of photography.

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design provides a degree alternative to students interested in programming, database administration, and introductory game development. The degree emphasizes major programming languages, as well as the courses necessary to develop skills for designing effective web pages, designing and implementing databases, and integrating multimedia, graphics, and animation for introductory game design.

The Graphic Design program will best service students who want to be ready to enter the computer graphic job market quickly but also have a well-rounded education with transferable core courses that can be used for future employment and educational growth. It provides exposure to the fine arts components of graphics design as well as technological computer components.

An Associate's of Arts and Applied Science Degree in Graphic Design from Lamar State College Port Arthur will provide you with a solid foundation for your career in marketing, advertising, as a member of a creative team at a design firm, titling, photo editing, user interface and user experience design and freelance design work.

A student completing the LSCPA curriculum is considered Core Complete.

No more than 60-66 semester credit hours (SCH) fromLSCPA will be applied to a Bachelor degree at Lamar University.

An additional 60 SCH or more must be completed to satisfy the bachelor degree requirements.

Students may pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design or a Bachelors of Science in Graphic Design.

A Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design will prepare students for Graduate School.
