Students With Disabilities
A disability is any physical or mental illness that results in in a loss of a major life activity such as, but not limited to learning, reading, writing, seeing, hearing, concentrating, sleeping, communicating, walking, or any condition that is considered as considerably limiting
Special Populations
Technical Majors Only
- Individuals preparing for non-traditional training and employment
- Students from economically disadvantaged families and low-income students
- Homeless students
- Single Parents and Single Pregnant Women
- Out-of-Workforce Individuals
- English Learners
- Youth (ages 17-24) who are in or have aged out of the foster care system
- Youth (ages 17 – 24) with a parent who is on active duty in the US Armed Forces
Types of Accommodations
Accommodations are assigned based on the student’s individual needs and might include:
- Note-taking assistance
- Testing accommodations
- Reader/Scribe
- ASL interpreters
- Assistive Technology

Requirements for Accommodations and Special Services
- Be enrolled as a LSCPA student
- Apply for services
- Provide Documentation
- Meet with the ODS Coordinator
- Check email for accommodation letter and/or confirmation of special service
Note:
- Accommodation letter must be given to each instructor, each semester.
- Accommodations only become effective when the student provides the instructor with an accommodation letter.
- Students enrolled in online courses follow the same process as those enrolled in on-campus courses.
Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are permitted in Seahawk Landing with approval from the Office for Disability Services (ODS). An ESA provides comfort or emotional support for someone with a mental health condition or emotional disorder. An ESA is not a Service Animal, and therefore, is not allowed in other campus buildings or facilities.
Lamar State College Port Arthur provides support for pregnant and parenting students. This policy ensures that students who are pregnant or parenting are afforded appropriate accommodations to continue their education.
